Summer Travels 2015

I will try to catch you up on some of my travels this summer. When I left Colorado in June, cousins Jim and Pat drove me across Kansas, Missouri and to Indiana. While in Indiana, Jim and Pat had lunch with Kim Moe, Jim's former boss at CTB/McGraw-Hill. They then had some repairs made on the motor home in Decatur and took me on a day-trip I was to Berne. That is where I got caught by the bear shown above.
I spent the 4th of July with cousins Scott and Laura in Columbus. I had a great time with them and their family. After a quick trip back to Decatur, we worked our way to Wisconsin. I met many "old" friends at rallies in Lake Delton and Madison.
After the rallies, I went to Viroqua, WI, and met Dr. Alex Wade, one of Jim's former students at Los Alamos High School. After a couple of weeks to relax in southern MN, I went to Turtle Lake, WI, to see the Burhops. they are good friends we met in Texas nine years ago.
I am now in the Twin Cities area visiting Jim's sister. I will try to add more detail in future posts.

Warmest regards, Gus

Hidden Bluffs RV Park, MN

Betty and I were in Southern Minnesota for the past two weeks. Hidden Bluffs RV Resort is near Spring Grove and Mabel, MN. It is not too far from Harmony, MN, which has many Amish families living in the area.
Now I am in Turtle Lake, WI. We are visiting my friends who I met in Texas a number of years ago.

I will try to catch you up on my travels in future posts. This is the first time I have been able to get the blog to work in several months.

Warmest regards, Gus

On the Way to Colorado

I had a great time at the recent rallies in California and Nevada. I met lots of "old" friends and made some new ones. The Fulltimers rally in Hemet was lots of fun and the food was excellent. One of the best seminars I have been to many years was given by a former Madam of a brothel in Pahrump, NV. She gave lots of insights into the profession and signed a book (Legal Tender) for me that she wrote about her six years running the business. The books provides lots of ideas most businesses could use concerning customer service.

In Pomona, cousins Jim and Pat stayed busy "working" security at the FMCA Family Reunion. It was a long week, but they sure did meet lots of interesting people. One incident involved a woman who lost her new smart phone. After checking lost and found and many of the places she had been in the previous 24 hours, she went back to her motor home. She used her husband's cell phone to call her own phone, and found it in a frying pay--under the bed!! When she saw us to report finding the smart phone, she added: "Now I can't find my husband." Husband was found eating a donut and she was so happy, because now she could attend the seminar hosted by the Geeks on Tour and learn how to use the new smart phone.

After Pomona, I spent a week in Palm Springs and am now ending a week on the Colorado River just south of Lake Havasu City. On Tuesday, it is off to Camp Verde for a week and then to Albuquerque, Pojoaque and Colorado Springs by May 2nd.

Warmest regards, Gus

Southern California

I have been spending a lazy couple of months in the warm weather of Southern California. After over a month in the Palm Springs area, including some time at Desert Hot Springs and the mineral spas, I went to Oak Glen which is near Yucaipa. That is about 4800 ft in elevation and close to Big Bear. I did take a day-trip to Big Bear to be reminded what snow looks like up close. I like it better at a distance! The I came to Menifee, which is near Temecula. Cousin Jim is happy that he hasn't had to shovel snow once this winter.
Next week I am going to meet some friends at a rally in Hemet and then it will be up to Pahrump, NV, for another rally and good friends. From Pahrump, it will be on to Pomona for the FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association) rally.
Life is good on the road.
Warmest regards, Gus

2014-15 Travels

I am having trouble inserting a picture, but I do want to tell you what I have been doing.
I spent Christmas and New Year's in Lake Havasu City, AZ (we had snow on New Year's Eve) and then Cousins Jim & Pat drove us to Indio, CA, to attend the Western Motorhome Association Rally. At the rally, Betty and I helped Jim & Pat work security. We drove around in a golf cart to help people and watch for problems. We also stood at the entry to the evening entertainment to make sure only those who registered for the rally (and had badges) could enter for the free performances.
On Sunday (11th) we moved to the Thousand Trails Preserve in Thousand Palms. It is located near Washington Street and I-10. We have been resting from the rally, but did meet some friends (Ruth an Jerry from Las Vegas) at the Classic Club for Happy Hour.
Hope all is well with you and that 2015 is going to be a great year for you.

Warmest regards, Gus
