Cheyenne, WY

I couldn't get my pictures to upload, but I wanted to let you know Betty and I had a great time in Cheyenne, WY, yesterday. We visited the railroad museum, attended the Celtic Music Festival, and visited the state capitol.
I hope to post some of the pictures soon.
Warmest regards, Gus

Deadwood, South Dakota

Yessterday, I made a trip to Deadwood, SD, and saw some of the sights. I saw the saloon where Wild Bill Hickock was shot, visited the cemetary where he is buried, and tried my luck at the slot machines at the Four Aces Casino. Luckily, I was only playing the penny slots, or I would have lost all my money.

Custer State Park, South Dakota

Today I went out to Custer State Park to check out the bison. I saw hundreds of bison, some of them mothers with their babies. I also saw a coyote, wild turkey, pronghorns (antelope), but the wild burrows were hiding today.
I stopped at Sylvan Lake for lunch and had a great day.

Zoo in Brownsville, TX

Yesterday I spent an enjoyable day at the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, TX. The main attraction of the zoo is a nice display with some of my relatives. This cousin seemed to be aloof and ignored me.
The nursery had a new cousin who was born on January 29th. She was four lbs, seven oz. at birth. I couldn't get a good look at her, since she was covered with a blanket.

South Padre Island, TX

I have not posted in a while, since I develped a cough and sore throat several weeks ago. Must be the bug that is going around; lots of people have it, too. But Saturday, I did get to South Padre Island for the Kite Festival and took Sami to the beach.
There were some really neat kite demonstration set to music and of course lots of color. The weather was perfect--72 degrees with a nice breeze coming off the Gulf. (The water you see in the picture with the kites is Laguna Madre, on the west side of Padre Island. )
Sami enjoyed running on the beach, but found the water to be a little cold yet. Maybe she will have to come back in March when all the college students are here.
After all the activity, I took Sami and cousins Jim and Pat to Clinton's Beachside Bar for a late lunch. Not many places let us animals dine with their friends.
Warmest regards, Gus

Enchanted Springs Ranch

On Sunday, I visited Enchanted Springs Ranch in Boerne, TX. The ranch has been used for a number of movies and hosts other activities. On this Sunday, they hosted a live Nativity Scene, including sheep, goats, camels, etc.
There was live music, food, wagon rides, etc.
Here I am sitting on Woodrow, one of the resident long-horned cattle on the ranch.
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas.
Warmest regards, Gus

Blue Bell Creameries

Today I toured the Blue Bell Creameries in Brenham, TX. I got to watch them make and package ice cream, but the best part of the tour was the opportunity to taste the ice cream. I couldn't taste all the flavors, but I sure tried!

The tour guide said it takes 60,000 cows to provide enough milk to supply the creameries to make the ice cream and treats. Blue Bell Ice Cream is now distributed to stores in 22 states. I don't think this bronze cow I am sitting on gives any milk.
